Air Transat contributes to relief efforts in Haiti

Montreal, November 4, 2016 – Following Hurricane Matthew, which hit southwestern Haiti hard in early October, Air Transat is supporting humanitarian efforts in the country by transporting more than 600 kilograms of basic necessities on Flight TS 664 from Montreal to Port-au-Prince on November 2.

The cargo included several hundred kilos of building materials, tools, clothes and sanitary products destined for the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes (FENDLI). Supported for many years by Transat employees, this group home shelters some 150 children and teens whose health and educational needs are looked after. Several sections of the home’s buildings were damaged by the hurricane.

In addition, the Canadian Medical Assistance Teams (CMAT) organization was able to bring a filtration unit capable of producing up to 136,000 litres of clean drinking water daily, something that will certainly help save the lives of thousands of children and adults living in regions where sanitary facilities have been severely affected by the hurricane and where cholera is threatening public health.

Air Transat also will be operating a humanitarian flight to Haiti on November 15, 2016. At that time, the carrier will transport mostly emergency supplies provided by the charity Food For The Poor Canada.
